Happy Birthday Diets!!!

Today he is two years old - I cannot believe how fast time flies! Over the past several weeks I have noted small changes that suggest he is FINALLY maturing.
For example, in the morning after he goes outside then eats he normally cannot relax and will be up and getting into trouble unless we put him in his crate. More recently he has started to lie on the dog bed and just doze until we go for a walk or I leave for work. It is wonderful!

However he unfortunately gets to celebrate with a mild case of kennel cough...poor guy. He started coughing a bit yesterday morning and is still coughing a bit today. Not exactly sure where he might of acquired it, however he does not really lead a sheltered life and I have continual exposure to pets at work as well. Hopefully Nora does not pick it up..

I can't believe what a roller coaster it has been with him - he has been the most challenging, but at the same time, extremely FUN dog I have ever owned. I look forward to continuing to train in schutzhund (as soon as this cough resolves anyways) and enjoying non-sport time with him as well! (Flyball starts in a few weeks - fingers are crossed!)

  1. Happy B-day Dobie! I vaccinate my dogs against kennel cough. Glad to see you are taking him to activities. Dobies want to be entertained:)

  2. Thank you! Yes Dieter is vaccinated as well. However because kennel cough is made up of many different disease components, depending on what they catch, the vaccine is not fail safe. Think of the human flu shot - just because you get the shot, doesn't necessarily mean you will not get the flu. Depends what strain it is...
However because of the dog stuff he is involved in and the high exposure I have to sick animals, I do vaccinate him annually for it. Just got to quarantine the poor pup now for a couple weeks so he doesn't spread it

  3. Happy Birthday Dieter-Dog!
We vacinate Kato against kennel cough too because he is kenneled so often. They told me the same thing ... the vacine doesn't protect against every strain but should reduce the rish should he still come in contact with the 'cough'.
Give Dieter a B-Day hug for me! xo

  5. Happy birthday, Dieter! Hope you had a fantastic day. It's a great time to have a birthday; Vegas' little brother had a birthday Monday, too. Hope you kick that kennel cough to the curb quickly!
